Manners Police?

by Mindy Lockard on August 15, 2010

What happens when we break a “manners” rule?

We don’t get pulled over.

Like what happened on a recent trip out of town when I me, myself, and my foot were a little too excited to be on our way to see my family.

ticket

We don’t have to tote our children to city hall…

 city-hall

and we pay for that ticket with a large amount of cash causing our youngest to cry for fear that there won’t be any money left for groceries that week.

All three Lockard ladies were reminded of a few life lessons and they all had to do with what happens when we go too fast.

Although you won’t find me at your doorstep with my pen and gracious living ticketing pad–that is if I had one. What happens in life when we go too fast?  Although it doesn’t cost us money, what else might it cost us?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Mr. Billy Shakespeare had his Midsummer Night’s dream…
midsummer-nights-dream

and I have mine. Mine is less about frolicking in the forest and more about tangoing with a blackberry bramble to top a late night lemon pound cake.

A pound cake that I put in the oven at the girls’ bedtime, forgetting that it takes an hour to bake and fifteen to twenty minutes to cool. Oops! But my friends, this is what summer nights are made of… staying up past bedtime, getting around the table as a family and enjoying freshly baked lemon pound cake topped with fresh picked blackberries!

And that’s our mid-summer night’s dream!  To join our dream you can find the lemon pound cake recipe here. It’s easy and amazing!

The Climb…

by Mindy Lockard on August 8, 2010

Yes, it’s true.

I’m really saying this out loud. Quoting a teen pop sensation…of whom I’ve never seen in concert or watched on the tele.

But I have been known to drive down my street singing at the top of my lungs, with my two favorite girls singing along in the back…

IT’S A CLIMB!  YEAH!

It really is. If you dare to dream, life is a climb.

Bare with me here…

our family went hiking on Saturday.

Yes, three of the four of us were dressed alike. I didn’t get the memo or the phone call.

We saw our dream in the distance.  See it? There the very tip-top.

the-goal1

We had moments when we wondered if we could do it… and we kept going.

We had to catch our breath…

and at times we got sidetracked…

but when we arrived…

enjoying-the-view
Every sore booty muscle, bump and bruise was worth it. Oh, and the view? So worth the view!  Dreamy, hugh!

Kind of like our dreams in life… when we keep focused never letting the pain and challenge of it all get us down. The outcome is worth every moment of the climb. Especially if we do it graciously. Don’t you think?

There is a slight chance a couple of our hikers made a few extra dollars for gracious attitudes. Hey, I’m not above a little monetary incentive!

Take to the Table Tuesday: Egg-citement

by Mindy Lockard on August 3, 2010

There was some egg-citement in the cottage while we were away
finished-coop1

One of our little ladies entered henhood. Prompting the Mr. to send this text series.
Starting with this…

 eggs-in-nesting-box

then this…
egg-in-hand

oh and this one. How cute it this one? It screams husband of a blogger, does it not?
eggs-in-carton

and finally this one…

 two-eggs

At first I couldn’t believe he ate them while we were gone.  But then I remembered this…

and this…

sunning

So, let the man have his eggs. Especially since there are more where they came from. Gotta love urban farming.  It really is Gracious Living!

In other news, Elle and one of her bfs, a self proclaimed animal expert, are going to rise with the chickens to figure it out egg-actly which little hen is laying. Stay tuned for more chick drama from our little cottage.  And by drama I mean eggs.

Home Sweet Home!

by Mindy Lockard on August 2, 2010

They say home is where the heart is.  If that’s a case my home is 120 miles away with my side of the family where we spent the last week

running through sprinklers with cousins…

sprinkler

enjoyed pre-pool picnics with my mother and her special way of making even the most simple picnic an event…

to attempting to relax in a hammock with three small children trying to get on or off. What an amazing week away!

Where is your home or should I say your heart?
