As we wrap up the Holiday season let’s not forget the importance of showing gracious gratitude through the art of a handwritten thank-you note. Whether it’s for a gracious hostess or your sister’s gift of a strand of pearls everyone should be thanked. Graciously. It’s always easier to be gracious, when our gracious living is in order. Here are a few tips for getting our stationery wardrobe in order.

The Supplies. If you don’t have everything you need to write a note, that is a huge roadblock for writing and sending a thank-you in an appropriate amount of time. Keep a basket or box with the following items:
1. Stationery (personalized cards and quick, cute notes of varying sizes for different lengths of notes)
2. A pen that features your penmanship well
3. Addresses (in hardcopy or on your computer)
4. Stamps
5. ManneroftheMonth.com downloads Thank-you Tracking Sheet and Script to help little ones learn the art of the handwritten note.

In The Bride’s Thank-You Guide by Pamela A. Piljac, she writes: “There are only two real ‘rules’ that you need to worry about in writing your thank-you notes. They are (1) that you write them and (2) that you send them out promptly.” Many leading etiquette experts differ on the amount of time between receiving a gift and writing a thank-you note (from two to ten days). Sometimes in our hectic lives our thank-you notes get put off for weeks (see: Thank you Organizational System) with the guilt hanging over our heads. No matter what the time, it is always important to send a thank-you. Remember, how quickly we send a thank-you communicates how thankful we truly are, so it is always best to communicate right away.
